MeetChester

Our newest team member!

Originally from Hangzhou, China, Chester Yi Zhong received a BFA in Film and TV Production from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, and has now already established himself both as a sought-after digital post production specialist and as a talented independent filmmaker based in New York. As a digital post production specialist, Chester has worked on dozens of film productions, taking up various post production roles including editor, colorist, VFX artist, and DCP technician. These films went on to receive over 30 international film festival selections and awards, and have appeared on major streaming services such as Hulu. Working at Arcanum Post-Production in New York, Chester participates in most of the company’s projects with a concentration in editing and color grading, where he often leads the workflow. The major corporate clients he works with under Arcanum include The Shed Cultural Institution in New York, SandboxAQ, Hartman Benzon Media, Little Tikes, and Ferrero Rocher. As an independent filmmaker, Chester aims to create films that tackle philosophical/aesthetic concepts through stories of today. His short films Dandan – an experimental pseudo-documentary in the memory of his grandfather - and Es war an einem Sonntagvormittag (It was on a Sunday Morning), a reimagination of Franz Kafka’s Das Urteil both received official selections from international film festivals, and his upcoming work Art of the Fugue is in post production. Chester always takes pride in his expansive creative vocabulary. It does not only include the post production software and techniques he masters, but also philosophy, literature, and art history, for which he received scholarly training, in addition to a galaxy of over 1500 films he watched with aesthetic scrutiny, all fueling his creative vision for projects of different temperament. For example, his aesthetic manipulation on the video and photography capturing of Project Ozymandias drew inspiration from the Spanish painter Francisco Goya’s late paintings.
